Nordsømuseet - Aquarium, Ozeanarium

The collections of the History Museum date back to 1842 when the Estonian Literary Society started to collect items for the would-be museum. By 1844 the initial structure of the collections had been established: antiquities (records and documents, relics, seals, coins), art objects and nature collection.

Museum of Estonian Architecture
The Museum of Estonian Architecture - its exhibition halls and archives is placed in Rotermann’s Salt Storage, a magnificent industrial building near Tallinn harbour. The basement is also used for exhibitions and art events. One of the floors of Salt Storage is used by Art Museum of Estonia for modern art exhibitions. Together the Museum of Architecture and modern art exhibition hall are forming contemporary centre of arts and architecture. Multicultural orientation and wide openness to international projects makes it unique in Estonia.
The geological collection of the University of Tartu was founded in 1802 upon the reopening of the university and establishment of the Naturalienkabinett (= Cabinet of Mineralogy/Geology).
The museum was founded on December 6, 1976. Initially it was situated on the basement floor of the university main building. The first exhibition was "Tartu University 1632-1918". During the same year the museum moved to its present quarters in the former university library on Toome Hill, the building of the 13th century cathedral.
Tallinn Botanic Garden was founded in Kloostrimetsa as an institute of the Academy of Sciences on December 1, 1961. In 1995 it became a municipal establishment. Major plant collections were planted during the first 20 years. Outdoor gardens were opened for visitors in 1970 and greenhouses - in 1971.
There are plenty of sowing, harvesting and winnowing equipment in the museum. The collection of farm vehicles comprises of 61 storage items. The hunting cart of the Soosare Manor from Viljandimaa is no doubt one the most unique of its kind in Estonia.
Tartu Old Observatory (Museum)
The Sibelius museum is the only museum totally devoted to music in Finland. The museum building, designed by Woldemar Baeckman, is one of the most original Finnish creations of the 1960s. A selection taken from the 1400 instruments of traditional and art musics from all around the globe is exhibited. One room is naturally reserved for Sibelius´s life and work.

Whipple Museum of the History of Science in Cambridge

Am Spaarndammerplantsoen in Amsterdam stehen drei monumentale Komplexe des sozialen Wohnungsbaus von Michel de Klerk. Der am stärksten expressionistisch wirkende Block heißt im Volksmund Het Schip (Das Schiff). Er zählt zu den Meisterwerken der Architekturströmung "Die Amsterdamer Schule" aus dem Anfang des 20. Jahrhunderts. Das Museum Het Schip befindet sich in dem ehemaligen Postamt, das ebenfalls von de Klerk entworfen wurde.

Universitets Naturhistoriske Museer og Botanisk Hage, Tøyen Oslo
Universitetsmuseene på Tøyen har en historie som løper tilbake til 1812, da kong Frederik 6. ga gården Tøyen som gave til Norges nye universitet. Botanisk hage ble opprettet allerede i 1814, mens Zoologisk, Geologisk, Paleontologisk og Botanisk museum først ble flyttet til Tøyen rundt hundre år senere. Etter vedtak i det akademiske kollegium ble alle enhetene på Tøyen i 1999 slått sammen til én institusjon - Universitetets naturhistoriske museer og botaniske hage (NHM).

An Dampfbetriebstagen kann man auf den Lokomotiven mitfahren und diese auf der Drehscheibe, beim Kohlenaufzug oder bei den Wasserkränen beobachten. Führungen bieten einen Überblick über die Geschichte der Eisenbahn, die Fahrzeugsammlung und Fortschritte bei den Restaurierungsarbeiten.

Im Haus des Meeres – Vivarium Wien werden auf über 2.500 m2 mehr als 3.500 Tiere gezeigt. Der Mittelpunkt der tropischen Seewasserabteilung sind die großen Aquarien sind Haie, Seeschildkröten, viele Korallen sowie farbenprächtige Fische. Die größte Attraktion in der tropischen Süßwasserabteilung sind die berüchtigten Piranhas. Die Mittelmeerabteilung bietet einen Überblick über die Vielzahl an verschiedenen Lebewesen dieses Ozeans, beginnend mit Anemonen über Schlangen, Muscheln, Krabben, Seeigel bis zu Seesternen und Fischen.

Museum Industrielle Arbeitswelt Steyr
Mit der oberösterreichischen Landesausstellung "Arbeit-Mensch-Maschine" von 1987 wurde das erste österreichische Arbeitsweltmuseum errichtet. Bereits dieses Projekt stellte mehr dar als das bloße museale Aufbewahren eines von der öffentlichen Meinung bereits für tot erklärten Phänomens. Es ging vielmehr darum, in der Auseinandersetzung mit den historischen Kräften des Wandels auch die zukünftige Veränderbarkeit erfahrbar zu machen. Wurden bislang für diesen Zweck sakrale Bauten renoviert, so stand nun für dieses Projekt ein Profanbau, die ehemalige Waffenfabrik im Steyrer Wehrgraben, im Mittelpunkt. Wurde bislang restauriert und dazu passende Exponate arrangiert, so wurden im Museum Arbeitswelt die historische Realität abbildende Erlebnisräume konstruiert.
Museum Tiroler Bauernhöfe Kramsach -Tirol
Zwischen Innsbruck und Kufstein - im Gebiet der Tiroler Seen - wurde 1974 das Tiroler Freilichtmuseum gegründet. Ein wenig abseits der Landstraße Kramsach - Breitenbach, östlich des Reintaler Sees, durch Terrassen und Hügelreihen gegliedert, ist das Gelände in ruhiger Lage zu finden. Ein vielfältiges Veranstaltungsprogramm, Ausstellungen und Museumsführungen veranschaulichen das Leben unserer Vorfahren.

Österreichisches Papiermachermuseum in Laakirchen-Steyrermühl
Das Österreichische Papiermacher-Museum Laakirchen-Steyrermühl wurde in stillgelegten Werkshallen der Papierfabrik Steyrermühl eingerichtet. Gezeigt werden die ältesten Beschreibzeuge, die Geschichte des Papiers und des Papierschöpfens, wie das Pergament von Papier abgelöst und die Buchdruckkunst eingeführt wurde. Besondere Attraktion ist der originalgetreue Nachbau der Robert'schen Papiermaschine von 1799 - der ersten Papiermaschine der Welt. Mit dem im Jahr 2000 eröffnete Österreichische Druckereimuseum wird das Zentrum für Papier und Druck in nächster Zeit um die Abteilungen für Buchbinderei und Zeitungsdruck ergänzt.
Pathologisch-anatomisches Bundesmuseum Wien oder hier
Die Sammlungen des Museums dienten und dienen der Dokumentation und Erforschung von Krankheiten und damit auch von menschlichem (und tierischem) Leiden. Die Suche nach den Ursachen dieses Leidens und damit der Versuch diesem Leiden entgegenzuwirken stand dabei im Vordergrund. War das Museum ursprünglich ein Ort der Lehre für Mediziner, so sind die Sammlungen heute auch medizinischen Laien zugänglich und sollen ein von Wissen über Krankheiten - auch im Sinne einer bewußten Auseinandersetzung mit diesem oft verdrängten, deshalb aber nicht weniger realen Aspekt des menschlichen Lebens - vermitteln.
Die Sammlungen der Sternwarte zeigen heute die Entwicklung der naturwissenschaftlichen Forschung über fast ein Vierteljahrtausend. Ihre gegenwärtige Form geht auf die Neuaufstellung im Jubiläumsjahr 1977 zurück. Dabei wurde darauf Rücksicht genommen, dass die Sternwarte bereits zum Museum eines Museums geworden war.

Collegium Maius - Jagiellonian University Museum in Krakau
Collegium Maius, situated at the corner of St.Anna and Jagiellonska Streets, is the oldest university edifice in Poland. Its history goes back to the year 1400. The actual walls of the Pêcherz house have been preserved in their foundations and on the side overlooking Jagielloñska Street. This is easily traceable by observing the wild-stone compositon, so typical of the 14th century. The house was not large and hardly could hold the University activities. During the 15th century Collegium Maius was extended. The University was able to purchase the houses contiguous to the College and to combine them into a harmonious whole, complete with a courtyard enclosed with a ring of arcades, interrupted with the professor's staircase, leading up to the first-floor balconies.
The State Hermitage occupies six magnificent buildings situated along the embankment of the River Neva, right in the heart of St Petersburg. The leading role in this unique architectural ensemble is played by the Winter Palace, the residence of the Russian tsars that was built to the design of Francesco Bartolomeo Rastrelli in 1754-62. This ensemble, formed in the 18th and 19th centuries, is extended by the eastern wing of the General Staff building, the Menshikov Palace and the recently constructed Repository.

In 1999 it was joined with the Paleontological Museum and the Zoological Museum to a unit named Museum of Evolution. The Gustavianum was erected in the 1620s to be the main building of Scandinavia's oldest university, and served as such through most of the 19th century. The building is now home to the University Museum, containing five permanent exhibitions. An observatory, a tower built on the roof of a professor's house, existed already in the 1650's. Professor Anders Spole also created an observatory on his roof in 1680, which was destroyed by the devastating city fire of 1702. The first real observatory though was the Celsius observatory in the centre of Uppsala, founded through the efforts of the famous astronomy professor Anders Celsius in 1741.

The founding of the Vatican Museums can be traced back to 1503 when the newly-elected Pope, Julius II della Rovere, placed a statue of Apollo in the internal courtyard of the Belvedere Palace built by Innocent VIII; he brought the statue from the garden of his titular church of St. Peter in Chains. In 1506 the Laocoon was added to the collection, after its discovery on the Esquiline Hill before the eyes of Giuliano di Sangallo and Michelangelo Buonarroti.
